In June 2005, tender documents were released to construct a new AAPL Distribution Center for Toyota products with the primary requirements of:
- the building needed to be located within a 5 km radius of Toyota's Altona Assembly Plant,
- there was no cost disadvantage with the relocation
- the building needed to be 8,500sq mtrs in size
- be capable of handling "B-Double" truck configurations
- be operational by March 31, 2006
Whist this process was taking place, we kept the option of reviewing existing properties in the area open and were approached regarding a facility at 197-205 Fitzgerald Road, Laverton North. The lease was signed on December 24, 2005, and a capital works program commenced to prepare the building, install building sprinkler systems and additional parking.
AAPL's capital works program includes improved amenities, training room and canteen. All works will be completed by March/April, 2006.
