A revolutionary interactive 3D display designed to showcase Victoria's world-class automotive manufacturing industry has been launched at the Melbourne International Motor Show.

The 'Vroom' installation is a portable version of the Victorian-developed Virtual Reality Room at the Melbourne Museum and features Computer Aided Design material generated by Victorian automotive design studios and manufacturers.

The portable Virtual Room 'in the round' concept is a world first offering members of the public and international industry representatives an exciting opportunities to learn about Victoria's automotive manufacturing capabilities and the massive contribution the sector makes to the economy.

Vroom is a unique 3D visualization system developed by a consortium comprising Swinburne University of Technology, RMIT University, Melbourne University, Monash University, Adacell Technology and The Museum of Victoria. It was commercialised with the help of a substantial grant through the Bracks Government's STI program.

Australian Arrow provided 3D CAD models to the VROOM project.

The Motor Show Vroom facility is a highlight of Automotive Week 2005 - a joint initiative of the Victorian Automotive Industry and the Victorian Government which provides a diverse program of activities focusing on Victorian based manufacturers of cars and components.

Victoria is the heart of Australia's automotive industry. The Victorian automotive manufacturing industry is vital to our State providing over 27,000 jobs, achieving a record $2.4 billion of in 2003-04 and driving manufacturing R&D, technologies and productivity processes.

Vroom is a sample of the production that will be used by the Victorian Government sponsored automotive trade mission to next month's Society of Automotive Engineers 2005 World Congress in Detroit and the 2005 World Expo in Aichi, Japan.
