 National Tree Day 2005 Activities

Once again, we had a very successful tree (seed) planting event during the AAPL Family Day on Saturday, November 26, 2005. The day went smoothly as associates and their children took part in the seed planting activity either on their way in or on their way home. The only tricky part was ensuring all the tiny (dust like) native seeds did not all get blown away in the wind. The following results were achieved on the day:

  1. A total of 214 officially registered participants (children and parents)
  2. Effort
  3. 830 indigenous seeds and 50 cuttings from the front garden were planted
  4. Originality / Parental assistance
  5. A total of-880 seeds/cuttings were planted during the entire day

We aim to build a small sheltered area to store the pots and water them daily, and growth progress reports/photos will be published monthly in the newsletter. Our goal is to have at least 880 seedlings ready for planting as part of next year's tree planting activity at our new facility, where the children can then plant their own seedlings into the ground. Our thanks go to:

  1. Ken Anderson - for working tirelessly in preparing for and setting up the activity area and arranging for all the pots, soil, buckets, tables .etc, and for manning the activity area for entire of the day.
  2. Anne Martin - Volunteer from Carrum Indigenous Nursery for providing the seeds and expertise on the day
  3. Eddie Leszkiewicz - for manning the activity area for the entire day, helping the children and their parents select seeds
  4. Sylvia Arendze - assisting with all planting activities
  5. Marie Kennedy - preparing signs, posters, registers, certificates, name tags etc. and purchasing planting equipment

All other Enviro-Reps who assisted in making the event a great success Photos of the tree planting activities and other festivities on the day are on display in the main notice board area in the factory.

Thanks once again to all who contributed in what has become a great annual environmental initiative.

Virtually all the trees at the font of 65 Lathams Rd were planted during the past 3 tree planting days.
